Flat White books pairs of people into partner cafés to meet over coffee. Every booking arrives with guaranteed spend attached — no software, no joining fee, no risk.
What a partnership is worth
Every café owner knows the shape of the problem: the weekend rush looks after itself, and Tuesday at ten looks after nobody. Flat White introduces two locals — for friendship, networking, or a first date — and books their meeting at your café for an hour, whenever the two of them are free. Some meets will land in your weekend rush; plenty land on the midweek tables that need them most. Either way, it’s a table of two you weren’t counting on, with the spend attached before they arrive. Slide to see what that adds up to:
An illustration, not a promise — how many pairs choose your café depends on your location, your seats and how active your city is. What is guaranteed: every pair that books arrives with $14 of orders already paid. Second rounds, cakes and lunches are yours at full price on top, and every guest is a potential regular who now knows where you are.
Where the money comes from — and when it lands
When two people book a meet, each pays Flat White a $10 booking fee up front. Guests see the full split on their own payment screen, and so do you: $7.00 goes to your café as a coffee credit, about 48¢ covers the card transaction fee (passed through to Stripe at cost), and the remainder — roughly $2.52 — is Flat White’s booking fee. If a guest pays with an international card and the card fee is higher, that comes out of our share. Your $7 is fixed.
Unused credit stays with you. If a guest orders a $5.50 flat white against their $7.00 credit, the difference doesn’t come back to us and doesn’t roll over — you invoice the full credit value regardless. (And if they’re under, your staff have every reason to suggest the pastry.)
Ordering over the credit is even simpler. The $7 is a floor, not a ceiling. If a guest wants the $9 single-origin batch brew, adds a toastie, or the hour turns into lunch, they just pay you the difference directly at the till, like any other customer. That extra never routes through Flat White — it’s full-price business, yours on the spot.
Payment lands weekly, on a set clock. Every Monday at 5pm we pay out all credits redeemed at your café from Saturday through Friday of the previous week, each at its full $7 value, whatever the guest ordered. The weekend in between is deliberate — it leaves a few days for anyone, café or guest, to raise a question about the week’s meets before the money moves, so what lands on Monday is settled and final. No thresholds, no chasing, no reconciliation homework.
What happens when a pair turns up
A table for two, the day and the time. Nothing to confirm — it’s a heads-up, not homework.
The app has already told them where you are and when to be there.
Check-in only works when they’re physically at your café (location-verified). They swipe and show staff a full-screen receipt: REDEEMED, with your café’s name, the drink value and a reference code. Staff glance, nod, take the order — nothing to scan, nothing to type. If the order comes to more than the credit, the guest pays the difference at the till as normal.
Each credit is strictly one-time use. Once swiped, the screen can’t be shown again. No double-dipping, no ambiguity.
Every redeemed credit counts at $7 in Monday’s payment run, whatever the guest ordered. If anything is ever disputed, nothing happens automatically — a human from Flat White contacts you, and your word on what happened at the table is the authoritative account.
What we ask of you
Deliberately little: a good table for two for about an hour — ideally one where a first conversation can actually happen, not wedged against the grinder — the orders against each guest’s credit, and a two-second glance at a phone screen. That’s the whole job description.
